This is the landing point for actors who started on our PATH as well as any actor looking for a professional level class in scripted comedy.

About

Professional Gets Personal

Gunnar collaborates with his Master Class students and in every way becomes an advocate for their ultimate success. No pretense. No games. No ego. Master Class is a weekly workout; there is no start or end date. Actors can join at any time, although participation in Master Class is by invitation only.

The format is designed to empower actors and develop each individual in regard to their particular strengths.

➥  Week 1: The first week of every month, students bring in their own material. It can be any genre from any medium. Many actors utilize this opportunity to practice drama, work on theater pieces, get feedback on monologues, etc. If you want to stick with comedy, this is the perfect opportunity to hone a particular archetype or pull your branding into focus.

➥  Week 2: The second week of each month is cold-reading. Material is given to students when they arrive in class. Gunnar emphasizes making choices in a short amount of time that are supported by what’s in the pages.

➥  Week 3: On the third week of the month, Gunnar emails students a variety of sides that are currently casting. Actors choose what they like and Gunnar works with them on the material, offering clear feedback on the bookability of the actors choices and execution.

➥  Week 4: The fourth week of the month is also cold-reading class. Aside from scene practice, Gunnar provides deeper reinforcement of core acting tenets, script analysis and the psychology that drives and humanizes The Heroes & Heroines of Comedy.

It’s been a while since I took a class. Where should I start?

Acting for Sitcoms 1 is strongly encouraged for most actors who train at Actors Comedy Studio. Our method for working successfully in TV comedy is thoroughly explored in AFS 1, 2 and 3. Our curriculum is challenging even for actors with a theater degree or a collection of various acting training.

Advanced and working actors are welcome to begin in Acting for Sitcoms 2, 3 or Master Class, depending on experience and instructor approval.

Do you offer payment plans?

Students pay for six classes at a time. Every time you renew your spot in Master Class, you purchase six classes. You can pay for three at time as you go, although the commitment. is always for weeks.

A Note From Gunnar

Hi there!

I just want to be super real with you for a moment. Comedy is sensitive and a career in comedy can be extremely lucrative. Time is money and you don’t have either to waste. I know the teaching marketplace in Los Angeles is overwhelming. Among the brilliant, dedicated instructors here are others who will disrespect you and your ambitions to make a buck. Some of the biggest names can disappoint. Finding real help can be confusing.

It’s likely on your mind, wherever you are in your career or the world, so I’m happy to talk about it with you. Show business is like no other business. There is no right way to go about it. There is no direct route to clear success. It’s haphazard.

Actors are vulnerable in that sense, but smart. We know that we need to become great at the craft and also weave together bits of other essential audition and Industry related information to carve ourselves a career. But who can you trust? Your best bet is ultimately yourself.

When you’re looking for a Comedy Coach, it’s worth asking some pointed questions. “Who trained my teacher to teach?” I love answering that question. “Does my comedy teacher write, perform, direct or produce comedy?” I do. Most don’t. Perhaps most importantly; “Where did my teacher study comedy?” When it comes to scripted comedy and audition technique instructors, the answer is generally, “I didn’t.”

It’s worth looking through backgrounds and bios to see what each teacher’s qualifications are. Or just ask them when you meet them. I’m always happy to share where I trained, how I know what I know and the exact source of my experience. Some acting coaches in Los Angeles aren’t even actors; they have no acting training and have never performed. That’s certainly something to think about!

That said, if you interview your teacher before giving them your money and read carefully between the lines, you’ll quickly see who is in service to you and your dreams and who is not. Anyone who won’t answer all the questions you have about studying with them is not helping you step into the personal power you need to thrive as a creative in show business. If you’d like to meet me before studying with me, it’s always free and usually amusing.

Cheers!
Gunnar
